nTop Live: Landing Gear Optimization for Additive Manufacturing
Additive manufacturing can save time in the qualification and certification phases of aerospace components by rapidly providing the parts for testing. For example, Safran and SLM Solutions produced a large nose landing gear fitting that was manufactured with selective laser melting.
In this nTop Live, Alejandro Carcel Lopez, Application Engineer at nTopology, shows you how to optimize a nose landing gear main fitting for additive manufacturing using gyroid TPMS lattice structures. First, he uses the results of a static analysis to drive the local thickness of the gyroid making the part lighter in the low-stress regions and denser in the load-bearing regions. Then he runs a quick simulation in nTopology and exports the results for further analysis.
Watch and learn how to:
- Take full advantage of Additive Manufacturing by engineering graded lattice infills
- Run simulations in nTopology or export to FEA tools, like Abaqus, for aircraft certification
- Use lightweighting methods to reduce the weight of whole aerospace assemblies
Applications: Lightweighting, Simulation, Field-Driven Design
