Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) is a 3D printing process that deposits melted thermoplastic filament through an extruder to build a 3D part layer by layer. When 3D-printing complex topology optimized parts, extra material is often required to provide support for overhangs and prevent part deformation.
In this nTop Live, Guenael Morvan and Yuki Okada, Application Engineers at nTop, show you a DFAM approach for topology optimized parts that removes any overhangs that would require the use of extra support material.
They will show you how to set up the topology optimization and teach you two different optimization methods that make the FFF printing process more reliable and efficient. One method fills in overhangs using the manufacturing support block where the other method section cuts the part and uses that area to extrude out to the surface.
Watch and learn how to:
- Cut material cost, reduce printing time, and print without supports
- Set up and run a topology optimization for a bracket
- Use two different methods to fill overhangs of a topology optimized part
